Turkish Cypriots Have A Right to Enjoy Privileges of EU Membership, Verheugen |

Tuesday, 16 June 2009Guenter Verheugen, vice president of the European Commission, said Monday that Turkish Cypriots unequivocally had a right to enjoy privileges of EU Membership.
Verheugen told reporters following his meeting with President Mehmet Ali Talat of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) that they discussed the situation in Cyprus in reference to the EU.
He expressed his happiness over the progress in talks between the leaders of the two communities noting that both leaders exerted utmost efforts for a solution in the island acceptable to both sides.
Verheugen said the EU was ready to support the talks but not as a judge or referee. He said the EU wanted to provide support and advice should both parties ask for it. |
