The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has no plans to participate in the settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, Adviser to the Information Department of the CSTO Vitaly Strugovets said.

"Since there is already existing solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the CSTO is not necessarily to be included in this structure and to intervene in the resolution of this issue," Strugovets told Trend News.

The current system justifies itself, as evidenced by the frequent contacts between presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The meeting between presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia in St.Petersburg on June 4 was the fifth meeting on Karabakh problem.

The previous meeting was held in Prague on May 7 and Zurich on January 28. The first meeting between the presidents was held in St.Petersburg in June 2008 and second in Moscow in November 2008.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.

Speaking about the cooperation with Azerbaijan, Strugovets said that CSTO cooperates with the organization member countries and non-participating countries against drug, including with Azerbaijan.

"Azerbaijan is taking active participation in anti drug operation Kanal of CSTO," Strugovets said.

CSTO Kanal operation is aimed at preventing drug trafficking from Afghanistan and to unite efforts of non-CSTO countries.

About twenty non-SCTO countries partook in anti drug operation in 2008.

Other versions of cooperation between CSTO and Azerbaijan have not been considered, he said.

"We are cooperating on anti drug program only," "he added.
