Tuesday, 9 June 2009Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu met with Pakistani Foreign Minister Mehmood Qureshi in Islamabad on Tuesday.
Holding a joint press conference with Qureshi, Davutoglu said that the relations between the two countries were very good, adding that Turkey attached great importance to stability in Pakistan.
Davutoglu said that Turkey extended humanitarian aid to Pakistan, adding that Turkey would give a 10 million USD of check to Pakistan. He said that a cargo plane would also bring 10 tons of humanitarian assistance to Islamabad on Tuesday.
Davutoglu noted that Turkish International Cooperation & Development Agency (TIKA) would open an office in Islamabad.
International organizations should work with more coordination regarding the assistance to Pakistan, Davutoglu said and called on international community to support Pakistan.
On the other hand, Pakistani Foreign Minister Qureshi said that bilateral relations were perfect, but economic relations were not at desired level, adding that they should work on this issue more.
Turkey was an important country in Europe, Qureshi said and affirmed that Pakistan supported Turkey's EU membership bid.
Qureshi also said that Turkey and Pakistan could cooperate in education and students exchange issues. |
