Tuesday, 2 June 2009The museum described by Nobel-laureate Turkish novelist Orhan Pamuk in his latest book "Museum of Innocence", will be opened in Istanbul.
"Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency" is also displaying efforts for the opening of the museum in 2010, a written statement from the agency said on Tuesday.
Pamuk has been carrying out the preliminary activities for the establishment of the museum in Istanbul's Cukurcuma district for a long time. The museum is expected to make a poetic and documentary representation of the culture of Istanbul from 1950s until the present day, through various objects used in daily life, photographs, paintings and movies.
Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency has decided to support the construction of the "Museum of Innocence" as it would be a cultural heritage investment for the city of Istanbul, the agency's statement said.
"Museum of Innocence" is a novel by Orhan Pamuk, Nobel-laureate Turkish novelist. Published on August 29, 2008, it tells the story of Kemal and his distant relative Fusun, whom he loves. Starting in 1975, it recounts their story until our day.
One of Turkey's most prominent novelists, Orhan Pamuk's works have sold over seven million books in more than fifty languages. Pamuk is the recipient of numerous literary awards, including the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2006 - the first Nobel Prize to be awarded to a Turkish citizen. |
