Turkey will take over the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council.
Turkish Permanent Ambassador to the UN Baki Ilkin and his team will carry out the one-month presidency in June.
Ilkin will preside Security Council meetings throughout the month. The high-level meetings, on the other hand, will be chaired by foreign minister or a higher authority.
After approval of the monthly program of the UN Security Council on Tuesday, Ilkin is expected to hold a press conference at the UN Headquarters.
The presidency of the UN Security Council rotates among the 15 members in alphabetical order.
Turkey has been a member of the UN Security Council since January 2009. As one of the 10 non-permanent members, it will stay in the council until the end of 2010.
The Security Council has five permanent (the United States, Russia, the People's Republic of China, France and Britain) and ten non-permanent (Austria, Burkina Faso, Costa Rica, Croatia, Japan, Libya, Mexico, Turkey, Uganda and Vietnam) members.
