Sunday, 31 May 2009Turkey's Chief EU negotiator said on Sunday that Turkish officials were currently searching ways to fulfill the country's international liabilities regarding the clearing of minefields.
Speaking to reporters in the northwestern province of Tekirdag, Turkish State Minister and Chief Negotiator for EU Talks Egemen Bagis said that Turkey had the responsibility to clear its minefields according to Ottawa Treaty.
"We are now searching ways to fulfill our international liabilities with the least possible costs. The relevant legislative activities are being carried out. The necessary actions will be taken once the law is adopted," Bagis said.
Delivering a speech at a meeting of Justice and Development (AK) Party in Tekirdag, Bagis commented on Turkey's EU membership process as well.
Bagis said all the related parties acted in coordination in order to carry Turkey to EU standards and to bring democracy, economic welfare and freedom of expression to the country.
"We are aiming at a concrete EU standard rather than an imaginary future," Bagis said. |
