Friday, 29 May 2009The Turkish energy minister defined a regional energy meeting in Baghdad as a positive step on Friday.
Turkey's Energy & Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz said that the regional energy and electricity meeting in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad was a positive step.
"We will lay the groundwork for further meetings envisaging cooperation in oil and natural gas after this meeting attended by Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria," Yildiz told AA correspondent.
Yildiz said that Turkey was ready to contribute to every industry in Iraq, and committees would meet twice a year and ministers would meet once a year, which he defined as fruitful.
Also, Iraqi Minister of Electricity Karim Wahid al-Hasan spoke in the regional energy meeting and said that his country wanted to make use of Turkey's experiences in constructing power plants.
Al-Hasan said that Iraq was actually purchasing 200 megawatts of electricity from Turkey and 600 megawatts of electricity from Iran.
"After we implement agreements on electricity infrastructure, we will offer great services regarding generation and sale of electricity," he said.
The Iraqi minister said that Turkish companies had many business opportunities and chance to invest in Iraq's electricity industry.
Participants signed a protocol on cooperation in electricity after the regional energy and electricity meeting.
The protocol foresees connecting the electricity networks of Turkey, Syria, Iran and Iraq to each other, and broaden the network to eight other countries that are the members of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Also, the protocol envisions organization of fairs regarding electricity. |
