Former senior military commander and presidential hopeful Mohsen Rezaei says if elected president, his government would be capable of stopping an Israeli attack with "one strike", Press TV reported.

"My government... understands missiles and tanks as well as foreign policy and knows exactly where Israel's sensitive spots are," Rezaei, who was the chief commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) for sixteen years, told a news conference.

"(My government) could stop them forever with one strike," he added in an allusion to striking Israel's Dimona nuclear complex -- which is widely believed to be home to the Israeli nuclear arsenal.

Israel, the Middle East's sole if undeclared nuclear armed state, accuses Iran of making efforts to develop nuclear arms under the guise of a civilian nuclear program.

Under the allegation, officials in Tel Aviv have repeatedly threatened to launch military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

Iran says its pursuit of uranium enrichment is directed only at the peaceful applications of the technology.

Rezaei, whose presidential campaign has focused on a promise of economic reform, added that his presidency would also "act as a deterrent" to threats such as those originating from Tel Aviv.
