Saturday, 23 May 2009Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Mrs. Hayrunnisa Gul hosted a dinner in honor of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva and his wife Marisa Leticia Lula Da Silva at the Cankaya Presidential Palace in Ankara on Friday.
Speaking at the dinner, President Gul said that Turkey and Brazil are examples of two countries that have succeeded in developing and democratizing at the same time.
Turkey and Brazil are identical to each other as peaceful forces in the world with growing influence every passing day, Gul said.
"President Da Silva's visit to Turkey, a first ever by a Brazilian head of state, is a turning point in Turkish-Brazilian relations," Gul said.
Da Silva, in his part, said that economic relations between Turkey and Brazil continue to grow and that the trade volume in 2008 was worth almost one billion USD.
Reminding that Istanbul hosted the most recent meeting of the Alliance of Civilizations initiative, Da Silva said that Brazil will make use of Turkey's experiences when it would host the meeting of the Alliance of Civilizations in Rio de Janeiro in 2010.
Touching on the peace process in the Middle East, Da Silva said that Turkey has gained the trust of all parties in the Middle East.
