Thursday, 21 May 2009Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz was received by the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow in Ashkhabad on Thursday.
Berdimuhamedow told Yildiz that they were pleased with investments made by Turkish businessmen in Turkmenistan.
Minister Yildiz, in his part, said that he had a fruitful meeting with Berdimuhamedow and had a chance to evaluate bilateral relations.
Yildiz participated in the beginning of the Turkish-Turkmen Inter-governmental Economic Committee meeting.
Speaking at the committee's meeting, Yildiz said that almost half of all the projects assumed by Turkish construction firms in Central Asia in 2008 took place in Turkmenistan.
A cooperation protocol was signed by Turkey's Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) and Turkmenistan's Chamber of Trade and Industry on Thursday.
Minister Yildiz stressed that the trade volume between Turkey and Turkmenistan was worth over one billion U.S. dollars in 2008.
We want to increase our bilateral trade volume to two billion U.S. dollars in 2009, Yildiz noted.
Yildiz on Thursday held meetings with senior Turkmen officials in the fields of economy, finance, customs, taxation, social security, construction, electricity, energy and industry.
Yildiz will have talks with Turkmen officials on Friday on matters of natural gas and oil. He will sign the protocol that created the Turkish-Turkmen Business Council.
