Georgia, Tbilisi, May 14 /Trend News, N.Kirtskhalia /
Representatives of the parliamentary and unparliamentary Georgian opposition discussed the possibility of assisting in the development of democracy in Georgia at a meeting with the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State, Head of the Coordination Center for United States Dennis Rosenblum.

This included support for democratic reforms in Georgia, said the leader of the Christian Democrats Giorgi Targamadze at the end of the meeting.

"It was a mistake that, in Georgia the democratic institutions were considered strong, and all decided that they no longer need help," he said. Today, all agree that assistance to democratic institutions, such as the media and non-governmental sector is very important".

According to Targamadze, "it is not only an arena for policy and the activity of politicians is not sufficient for its development."

Georgia should receive assistance from the United States, which will be directed towards improving the human condition, said leader of the Democratic Movement - United Georgia Nino Burjanadze.

"But there must be conditions that will help ensure the needs of people rather than to strengthen the regime," she said.
