Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Burak Ozugergin said on Thursday that Turkey continued to record progress on its EU path, The Journal of Turkish Weekly reported.

Commenting on French President Nicholas Sarkozy's offer regarding establishment of a common economic and security space between Turkey and the EU, Ozugergin said European leaders from time to time suggest ideas.

Ozugergin reaffirmed stance of Turkey on EU, and noted that accession to EU was a strategic target for Turkey.

Although France has vetoed opening of negotiations on five chapters directly related with full membership, it approved opening of negotiations on two chapters during its EU presidency.
