Ali Babacan Becomes Minister in Charge of Coordination of Turkish Economy |

Friday, 1 May 2009Turkey's former Foreign Minister, Ali Babacan, has become the State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister in charge of coordination of the Turkish economy on Friday.
Below is short information on Babacan, new State Minister Cevdet Yilmaz, State Minister Faruk Nafiz Ozak, State Minister Zafer Caglayan, Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek, Public Works and Housing Minister Mustafa Demir, Industry and Trade Minister Nihat Ergun and Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz:
ALI BABACAN:
Babacan was born in Ankara on April 4, 1967. Babacan studied Industrial Engineering at the Middle East Technical University. He earned a Master's degree at the Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management. He is a founding member of the Justice and Development (AK) Party. Babacan served as Turkish Foreign Minister before becoming a State Minister in charge of the economy. He is married with two children.
STATE MINISTER CEVDET YILMAZ:
Turkey's new State Minister Yilmaz was born in eastern province of Bingol in 1967. He holds a doctorate degree in political science from Bilkent University. He worked at the State Planning Organization as a senior official. Yilmaz was a member of the Turkey-EU Joint Parliamentary Committee during the 23rd term. Yilmaz is married with two children.
STATE MINISTER FARUK NAFIZ OZAK:
Former Public Works and Housing Minister, Faruk Nafiz Ozak, became a State Minister on Friday. He was born in north-eastern province of Trabzon in 1946. He is a civil engineer who has graduated from Karadeniz Technical University. He played professional soccer at Trabzonspor. He is a deputy from Trabzon. Ozak is married with two children.
STATE MINISTER ZAFER CAGLAYAN:
Former Industry and Trade Minister, Zafer Caglayan, became a State Minister on Friday. He was born in eastern province of Mus in 1957. Caglayan is a mechanical engineer. He is a graduate of Gazi University. In 1995, he was elected as the President of the Executive Board of the Chamber of Industry of Ankara. He was appointed as the Industry and Trade Minister at the time of the establishment of the 60th Government. He is married with two children.
FINANCE MINISTER MEHMET SIMSEK:
Former State Minister in charge of the economy, Mehmet Simsek, became Turkey's new Finance Minister on Friday. Simsek was born in Arica town of south-eastern province of Batman in 1967. Simsek is an economist who has graduated from the Political Science Faculty of Ankara University. He completed graduate studies at the University of Exeter in Britain. Simsek is married.
INDUSTRY AND TRADE MINISTER NIHAT ERGUN:
A Justice and Development (AK) Party deputy from north-western province of Kocaeli, Nihat Ergun, was born in Kocaeli in 1962. He served as an economist, manager and consultant. Ergun is a graduate of the Marmara University. He was a mayor of Derince town. He is married with four children.
ENERGY AND NATURAL RESOURCES MINISTER TANER YILDIZ:
A Justice and Development (AK) Party deputy from central Anatolian province of Kayseri, Taner Yildiz, was born in Devecipinar town of central Anatolian province of Yozgat in 1962. Yildiz is an electrical engineer who has graduated from Istanbul Technical University. He is married with four children.
PUBLIC WORKS AND HOUSING MINISTER MUSTAFA DEMIR:
A Justice and Development (AK) Party deputy from northern province of Samsun, Mustafa Demir, was born in Salpazari town of north-eastern province of Trabzon in 1961. Demir is an architect and a graduate of Karadeniz Technical University. He worked in the private sector before becoming a deputy. He is married with five children. |
