Monday, 27 April 2009Turkish police were engaged in a gunfight with suspected terrorists in a sudden attack on a house in southeastern Istanbul that injured nine including seven police officers, a reporter, and a civilian.
Istanbul Governor Muammer Guler told NTV (Turkish broadcaster) that at least seven police officers were wounded. Governor Guler added there were "one or two terrorists" who are members of an illegal leftist organization called. The broadcaster CNNTurk said there were three people, including one woman, in the house.
The injured police officers İ.T. (45), A.K. (42), A.B. (34) and M.G. (42) were taken to Göztepe Education and Research Hospital, other two of them were taken to Haydarpasa Numune Training and Research Hospital, and 1 police were also taken to Eagle Education and Research Hospital.
Other injured people were also taken to the hospital.
Interior Minister BeÅŸir Atalay is coming to Istanbul.
