Monday, 20 April 2009An Egyptian security official asserted that two Coptic Christian men were killed by a Muslim man in Southern Egypt, Qena, after an Easter vigil, on Sunday. Reuters reported that the two men were recently released from prison after serving three-year sentences for killing a Muslim man during a sectarian clash. The killings are thought to have been as a consequence of a vendetta. Vendettas are particularly common in the South of Egypt.
AFP reported, "There is a vendetta between the family of the accused and the family of the victims. A member of the victims' family killed a relative of the accused in 2004," an official said."
Relating the event four suspected Muslim men are searched by Egyptian police.
Coptic Christians are predicted to be about 10 percent of total Egyptian population. Catholics and Protestants celebrated Easter last week but Copts celebrated it on Sunday because they use a different calendar to mark resurrection of Jesus.
