Turkey's chief negotiator for European Union membership talks pledged unwavering support for Turkish Cypriots on Thursday, saying that Turkey would not give any concessions in Cyprus over Ankara's EU bid.
"The cost of overcoming obstacles before Turkey's EU accession will never be the abandonment of the Turkish Cypriots," Egemen Bagis told a conference at the Eastern Mediterranean University.
"Cyprus is a national cause for Turkey, and no one should expect from Turkey to take unilateral steps," Bagis said.
Bagis later departed from Lefkosa for Turkey.
