Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivaylo Kalfin held talks on Wednesday with Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security of U.S. Richard Bart and also with US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton within the working visit to Washington, press centre of the ministry informed.

The two officials discussed the possibilities for lifting visa regime between the two countries and cooperation on security in cyberspace.
Ivaylo Kalfin and Richard Bart were unanimous that both states should be very active in continuing efforts for taking out the technical issues related to visa-free travel to the U.S. such as synchronization of timing control systems, information exchange and reducing the U.S. refused visa Bulgarian citizens under 10 %.

However it is claimed that the US administration is unlikely to sign in the short term an agreement with Bulgaria for the alleviated issuing of visas.
This emerged after the meeting of Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivailo Kalfin with US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton in Washington on Wednesday.

Minister Kalin has asked for speeding up the process of including Bulgaria in the US Visa Waiver program, but it became clear that hopes for a quick progress are unrealistic. The program expires in the summer.

The two officials discussed also energy policy issues and Bulgaria's mission in Afghanistan and were unanimous that the two countries enjoy excellent bilateral relations.
