Italian PM Berlusconi: Turkey Should Be EU Member

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said he backed US President Obama's support for EU membership for Turkey.

Mr. Berlusconi told reporters he was confident that current obstacles holding back Ankara's talks with Brussels could be solved.

US President Barack Obama said Western nations should engage with the Muslim world and Turkey's European Union (EU) membership will help West-East relations. Obama said Turkey's accession to the EU would send an important signal to the Muslim world and firmly anchor the country in Europe.
