U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Vice Chairman General James Cartwright has arrived in Georgia.

The general will visit the First Infantry Brigade, the Georgian Defense Ministry said.

The U.S. assumed responsibility for training the Georgian army under the Georgian-U.S. Strategic Charter. The military will be taught skills to wage war given its experience gained during the August conflict.

The training plan is being designed.

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, Prime Minister Nikoloz Gilauri and Defense Minister David Sikharulidze will meet the general today.

The meetings will focus on bilateral cooperation.
