Sunday, 29 March 2009French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said Saturday that the EU wanted to form a Gendarmerie Force to be deployed in Afghanistan which was troubled with homeland security issues.
Kouchner told reporters after the EU Foreign Ministers meeting in Czech Republic that they also discussed security issues in Afghanistan. He said they decided to send a combattant Gendarmerie Force to Afghanistan, adding that they would demand member states like Spain, Italy and Portugal as well as accession countries like Turkey to contribute Gendarmes to this force.
Kouchner said they would send a letter, in the days to come, to the Turkish government officially asking it to contribute Gendarmes to the said force. |
