Friday, 27 March 2009Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Thursday that if weather conditions got better, search and rescue teams would reach the wreckage of helicopter which was carrying Grand Unity Party (BBP) chairman Muhsin Yazicioglu and five other people, when it went down in bad weather on its way from southern province of Kahramanmaras to central province of Yozgat on Wednesday afternoon.
Appearing on a TV program on private Show TV channel, Erdogan said teams had been trying to reach the wreckage but poor weather conditions and mountainous region hampered the search efforts.
Search and rescue efforts coordinated by Turkish Armed Forces, Security Department and nongovernmental organizations had been continuing, he stated.
The ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party chairman Erdogan announced that he cancelled his election rallies which were scheduled to take place in eastern provinces of Agri, Kars and Igdir on Saturday. |
