Thursday, 12 March 2009INAU -- An independent television channel in western Moldova has been at odds with local police for two weeks, RFE/RL's Moldovan Service reports.
Police have searched the Albasat TV channel's office several times since late February, saying that investigations into allegations about the company's financial misdeeds are under way.
A group of Moldovan NGOs has called the police visits "harassment" against the media outlet and blamed Moldova's ruling Communist Party for "intimidation of the anti-Communist press," RFE/RL reports.
The NGOs say the upcoming parliamentary elections are the major reason for the problems faced by the TV channel.
The elections are scheduled for April 5. |
