The National Basketball Association (NBA) Opens Office in Istanbul

ISTANBUL - The National Basketball Association (NBA), North America's premier professional men's basketball league, has opened an office in Istanbul.

At a publicity meeting on the occasion of the opening of NBA Istanbul office, Sophie Goldschmidt, an NBA executive, said that the association aimed to make basketball number one sport in the world.

Goldschmidt, Vice President of NBA Europe, said that many basketball players from around the world were playing in NBA teams, adding that basketball became better with better players.

Goldschmidt also said that NBA executives were proud of Hidayet Turkoglu and Mehmet Okur, two Turkish players of NBA teams Orlando Magic and Utah Jazz.

Turkish Basketball Federation Chairman Turgay Demirel, on his part, said that his federation would fully support NBA in Turkey.
