Turkish President Abdullah Gul attended the Turkey-Tanzania Business Forum as part of his state visit to Dar es Salaam.

Speaking at the meeting, President Gul said, "I believe that our bilateral relations will further improve after Turkey's opening of a permanent embassy in Tanzania."

Gul said that they would encourage Turkish businessmen to make more investments in this western African country.

Later, President Gul partook in a banquet hosted in his honor by President Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania.

Gul said that he was the first ever Turkish president paying a state visit to Tanzania, and his visit would mark the beginning of a new era in the bilateral relations.

"We attach importance to developing our relations with Tanzania on the basis of partnership and cooperation. We are determined to strengthen our relations with all African nations," he said.

President Gul added, "there is a great potential of cooperation in the areas of agriculture, health, infrastructure and energy. We will encourage our businessmen to invest in Tanzania, but the Tanzanian government should support them."

President Kikwete, on his part, thanked Gul for providing Tanzanian citizens with education opportunities in Turkey. "We have many doctors, engineers and other specialists in our country thanks to Turkey's help," he said.
