ANKARA - Turkish Foreign Ministry has protested to Israel over a senior Israeli general's remarks harshly accusing Turkey. Turkish media and experts perceived the general's accusations as "insult' to Turkey.
The Turkish ministry in Ankara says it summoned Israeli Ambassador Gabby Levy on Saturday to discuss comments made February 10 by Israel's Major General Avi Mizrahi. The Israeli media says the Israeli general accused Turkey of massacring Armenians, oppressing Kurds and occupying Cyprus. Turkish Ministry's statement claimed that Israeli General Mizrahi's words are not acceptable in terms of any diplomatic tradition. Turkish ministry statement named Israeli accusation as "nonsensical talk and unacceptable allegations against Turkey and Turkey's Prime Minister".
Similarly Turkey's military says the remarks "cannot be accepted under any condition" and "can harm national interests between the two countries."
Turkish Chief of General Staff has labeled the Israel general "irresponsible man". Turkish Army statement said Israeli general's statement was "misguiding and falsifying realities, transgressional, unfortunate, irresponsible and unacceptable".
Israeli General Mizrahi had attacked Prime Minister Erdogan for what the Turkish leader criticized Israeli President Shimon Peres at another international conference, the World Economic Forum in Davos. Haaretz reported that Mr. Mizrahi called on Erdogan to look in the mirror. Israeli General had further accused Turkey of committing massacre of the Armenians and the suppression of the Kurds. Ai Mizrahi also mentioned the so-called Turkish occupation of northern Cyprus.
