ADDIS ABABA - The African Union (AU) has condemned Israel's three-week military attack against the Gaza Strip.

The 53-member AU urged the United Nations (UN) to investigate human rights violations during Israel's war against Hamas militants in Gaza.

The AU also says in a statement released Friday that the Israeli operation was "massive, indiscriminate and disproportionate."

The operation ended 10 days ago but people are struggling with a humanitarian crisis.

The U.N. Relief and Works Agency expanded food aid in recent days. About 900,000 Gaza residents are now receiving rations of flour, oil and sugar.
