Presentation of "Russian Children's and Study Literature" Exhibition

A presentation of the exhibition titled "Russian children's and study literature" was held on 28 January at the Republican Children's Library of Uzbekistan.

The organizers of the event are the Republican Children's Library of Uzbekistan, the Publishers' Association of Russian. Assistance was provided by the embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the Russian Federation and the Office of the RosSotrudnichestvo (Russian Cooperation Agency).

The exhibition included children's literature for different age groups: toy-books, puzzle books, fiction, science-fiction, reference publications, encyclopedias, etc.

The event continues the tradition of holding exhibitions of new Russian publications in Uzbekistan and is intended to assist further development of bilateral relations in the humanitarian sphere.

Also, the organisation of the same type of exhibitions is planned for 31 January and 2 February in the regional information-resource centres of public education administrations in the cities of Samarkand and Bukhara, according to the press service of the Russian Cooperation Agency in the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Russian Cooperation Agency - successor of Russian Foreign Centre, but with higher authority

On 26 January the Office of the Russian Cooperation Agency in Tashkent (former Russian Foreign Centre) held a press briefing.

Among the participants of the briefing were the new representative of the Russian Cooperation Agency in Uzbekistan, the Counselor at the Embassy of the Russian Federation Lidia Nikitina and former representative Tatyana Mishukovskaya, who passed on her responsibilities.

During the meeting it was pointed out that the Federal Agency for the Issues of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad, and for International Humanitarian Cooperation (Russian Cooperation Agency) was founded in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitriy Medvedev No. 1315 of 6 September 2008.

The agency is the successor of the Russian Centre for International Scientific and Cultural Cooperation (Russian Foreign Centre) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.

The functions of the Russian Cooperation Agency include:

- interaction with state and non-governmental structures of the CIS member-states and other countries in scientific, cultural, economic, information and humanitarian fields;

- assistance in development of public, business and scientific contacts;

- participation in planning, organisation, and conduct of humanitarian, scientific and cultural campaigns of the Russian Federation;

- assistance in development of international relations of the Russian Federation in the fields of education, promotion of the educational services of the Russian educational institutions in the world market, development of cooperation between Russian and foreign educational institutions;

- assistance in selection and direction of compatriots living abroad and foreign citizens for studies to the Russian Federation;

- organisation of measures on popularization of the Russian language abroad, organisation of courses and Russian language study centres on the basis of the agency's offices; provision of methodological assistance to foreign teachers of Russian language; organisation of scientific-practical conferences, seminars and creative meetings, participation in organization and conduct of national and international contests and Olympiads on Russian language;

- organisation of congresses, conferences, seminars and exhibitions.
