Monday, 26 January 2009Uzbekistan highly appreciates cooperation with Russia on security problems, Uzbek President Islam Karimov has said. He stressed that the visit of Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev further promoted that cooperation.
Karimov said responding to the question of Itar-Tass that their exchange of views was of much help. "Many things are becoming clear to me and I can make decisions for the maintenance of stability in our region with greater confidence. I can compare our line with Russia's ideas on the solution of this or that problem, which permits Uzbekistan to make the right decisions," he said.
Karimov stressed that, in his opinion, problems of security in the region specifically the problem of Afghanistan should be settled with the participation of representatives of the region. "We welcome new approaches set forth by US President Barack Obama but we would first like to see the results and they are impossible to achieve if countries of the region are not taking part in the process," Karimov said. |
