Friday, 23 January 2009Bethlehem - Senior Fatah leader Ahmad Qurei called on Friday for national reconciliation among Palestinians in the wake of the Israeli war on Gaza, but once again blamed Hamas for causing the current split in Palestinian politics.
"The scale of the sacrifices and the martyrs whom they overcome 1,340 martyrs and over 5,500 people injured, the destruction of the infrastructure of the institutions built and constructed by the Palestinian Authority, ministries and security headquarters and homes, require all of us, … to increase our level of national responsibility and the denial of the self and group interests for the benefit of the homeland Palestine," he said
Qurei also accused Hamas of "systematic and intensive" attacks on Fatah members and institutions in Gaza, pushing Palestinians toward a civil war.
He asked, "Is what is happening now putting obstacles before the wheels of national unity and the abortion of the Arab efforts for reconciliation is to end … the Palestinian dream of the unity and the promotion of self-determination?"
Qurei met with the officials from Palestinian factions at the Fatah offices in the West Bank city of Al-Bireh, adjacent to Ramallah on Thursday to discuss the aftermath of the war in Gaza. |
