ARTICLE 104 SUMMIT
When there has been an escalation in discussions about the Ergenekon probe, President Abdullah Gul will bring together authorities from the legislation, execution and jurisdiction powers over a luncheon at Foreign Ministry building in Ankara on Wednesday. Gul will bring together the executives within the scope of Article 104 of the Constitution which says that "the President of the Republic is the Head of the State. In this capacity he or she shall represent the Republic of Turkey and the unity of the Turkish Nation; he or she shall ensure the implementation of the Constitution, and the regular and harmonious functioning of the organs of state." President Gul invited several authorities including Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Deputy Premier Cemil Cicek and Constitutional Court Chief Judge Hasim Kilic to the luncheon.

BAYKAL: "YOU SHOULD FIND CONVICTS FROM WEAPONS"
Leader of Turkey's main opposition --Republican People's Party (CHP)-- Deniz Baykal said, "weapons (a cache of weapons were unearthed in Ankara) and Ergenekon probe are different from each other. You (Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan) should find the convicts from these weapons. But you should not try to defame intellectuals and journalists." Baykal demanded that a commission should be established in the parliament for investigation into those weapons.

"HARMONY" GATHERING AT TOP OF STATE
President Abdullah Gul, who warned that Ergenekon probe caused
"polarization", will get together with the heads of legislative, executive and judiciary powers over a luncheon. Turkish jurisdiction will be represented by the heads of the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court of Appeals, Council of State, Court of Accounts and Military Court of Appeals at the luncheon which will also be attended by Turkish Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

FINGER PRINTS ON WEAPONS SHOULD BE IDENTIFIED, BAYKAL
Deniz Baykal, chairperson of Republican People's Party (CHP), called on the Turkish parliament to take action in connection with the weapons unearthed within the scope of Ergenekon investigation. Baykal said that the parliament should work for the identification of the finger prints on the weapons.

HARMONY SUMMIT FROM GUL
President Abdullah Gul called presidents of legislative, executive and
judicial bodies to Foreign Ministry residence. Gul will bring together prime minister, parliament speaker and presidents of legislative, executive and judicial organs over a luncheon at Foreign Ministry residence today. It was stated that the luncheon was organized to mark "the new year".

FAREWELL FROM COMMANDERS
Commanders attended the funeral ceremony of retired colonel Abdulkerim Kirca who committed suicide. A ceremony with maximum participation was held according to military protocol for Kirca who committed suicide in Ankara. Chief of General Staff Gen. Ilker Basbug and commanders of forces also participated in the funeral prayer at Kocatepe Mosque. Kirca's wife said her husband died with his honor.

PREMIER FUMES OVER GREEK CYPRIOT LAWMAKER'S REMARKS
Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan lashed out at European Parliament's Greek
Cypriot member Marios Matsakis when the lawmaker interrupted in Erdogan's speech in Brussels and accused Turkey of "invading" Cyprus. "You just keep nodding your head. We have a very good saying in Turkey just for what you did but it would be inappropriate to voice it in here," a very angry Erdogan told Matsakis, who was shaking his head as he was listening to the Turkish premier.

PRESIDENT TO CHAIR HISTORIC SUMMIT
President Abdullah Gul is set to host the heads of the legislative,
executive and judicial branches of the state. Turkish Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, chairpeople of the the High Court of Appeals, the Council of State, the Court of Accounts, and the heads of the military courts. Recent political developments are expected to be discussed during the meeting.

TOP STATE BRASS TO GATHER
President Abdullah Gul will host a luncheon today at Foreign Ministry
Residence and meet heads of the legislative, executive and judicial branches of the state. TURKISH CURRENCY PLUMMETS
Turkish lira lost 5 percent in value over just two days as U.S. dollar has gained against all currencies. U.S. dollar was up as high as 1.68 TL as a global financial malady hit British and French markets hard, forcing the government's to draft new bailout plans for commercial banks facing bankruptcy.

'TURKEY IS BLACKMAILER'
Reactions rose when Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in Brussels, "if Greek Cypriots block energy chapter heading (in Turkey's EU membership negotiations), we think about Nabucco again." German economy minister said that Turkey blackmailed the EU with the issue of Nabucco pipeline.

Ramazan Baydan, owner of the Baydan Shoes and producer of the shoes which Iraqi journalist Muntazar al-Zeydi threw at George W. Bush, registered the shoes under the name "Bye Bye Bush".

ERDOGAN: "NO ONE SHOULD INTERVENE IN JURISDICTION"
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a press conference at Esenboga Airport in Ankara upon his arrival from Belgian capital of Brussels. Replying to questions in regard to the Ergenekon probe, Erdogan said, "no one should intervene in the judiciary process. Everyone should respect the laws."

BANKS ASSUME IMPORTANT ROLE DURING GLOBAL ECONOMIC CRISIS, OZINCE
Turkish Banks Association (TBB) President Ersin Ozince said that Turkish banks assumed a very important role during the period of global economic crisis and its sound financial structures prevented Turkey from getting affected by the crisis. Ozince said, "our banks made history during this process."

I CONDEMN THOSE PUTTING PRESSURE ON PROSECUTOR, ERDOGAN
Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan delivered remarkable statements regarding
Ergenekon investigation upon his return from the Belgian capital of Brussels. Erdogan responded harshly against the pressure applied on the prosecutors carrying out the investigation. "I condemn the pressure over the prosecutor and I criticize the legists, who should have respected the laws the most, for not displaying such respect," Erdogan said.

GUL TO BRING TOGETHER TOP STATE OFFICIALS
President Abdullah Gul will bring together the heads of legislative,
executive and judiciary powers over a luncheon. Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan, Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the heads of Constitutional Court, Supreme Court of Appeals, Council of State, Court of Accounts, Military Court of Appeals and Supreme Military Administrative Court will attend the gathering. Officials from the Presidential Palace said that the luncheon was scheduled earlier and it had no connection with recent developments.

THREE MORE PROSECUTORS TO ERGENEKON
Justice Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin said that three more prosecutors would join 5-people team which was carrying out Ergenekon probe. Sahin said that Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office demanded for more prosecutors due to their heavy work.
