Bulgaria Seized by Extremely Low Temperatures

All of Bulgaria was has been gripped by very low temperatures Monday, with the northern town of Knezha registering the lowest, -19 degrees Celsius, the National Meteorology and Hydrology Institute announced.

The southern Bulgarian cities of Plovdiv and Stara Zagora registered -17 degrees Celsius on Monday, and the northern cities of Pleven and Lovech had -15 degrees.

Bulgaria's capital Sofia has had a temperature of -11 degrees Celsius. The southern Black Sea resort of Ahtopol was the warmest spot in the country with only -2 degrees.

The Meteorology Institute said the temperatures were slowly going to rise on Tuesday and Wednesday but warned of showers of freezing rain.
