Turkish FM Babacan: Turkey Will Do Its Utmost For Implementation of UN Resolution, |

Friday, 9 January 2009Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan said on Thursday that Turkey would do its utmost in regard to implementation of the resolution which was approved by the UN Security Council and called for an immediate cease-fire, leading to the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
14 of 15 Security Council members including Turkey voted in favor of the resolution which stresses the urgency of and calls for an immediate, durable and fully respected cease-fire, leading to the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
Turkey voted at the Security Council as a member for the first time after 48 years. FM Babacan represented Turkey in the meeting.
Delivering a speech after the approval of the resolution at the UN Security Council, Babacan said the resolution was a document of compromise which showed the will of UN Security Council.
Babacan said what the council should have done had been to make a strong call for ending of all military activities there and it did so.
Babacan said the resolution, which also emphasized the need for opening of all border crossings, must be implemented without delay.
Turkey would keep working with her friends in the region and outside the region for securing lasting stability and tranquility, he added.
