A Turkish diplomat urged on Thursday the United Nations (UN) to take action regarding the situation in Gaza.
Baki Ilkin, Turkey's permanent representative to the UN, asked the UN and the UN Security Council to take immediate action regarding developments in Gaza.
"There is a situation that requires immediate action of the UN and the Security Council," Ilkin said during a council meeting in New York.
Ilkin defined the situation in Gaza as tragic, and said it could not be accepted.
The diplomat said that Turkey was supporting the call of Antonio Guterres, the UN high commissioner for refugees, to back initiatives to help innocent people in Gaza.
More than 700 people have been killed and around 3,000 others were injured since the beginning of Israeli offensive against Gaza on December 27, 2008.
