IDF soldier killed in Gaza Strip, second in past 24 hours |

Thursday, 8 January 2009The IDF on Thursday announced the death of a second soldier killed in Gaza fighting.
Sgt. Amit Robinson, 21, a tank crewman from kibbutz Magal, was killed Thursday by sniper fire in northern Gaza.
Robinson was the first Armored Corps soldier to die in Operation Cast Lead, and the ninth soldier to be killed since the operation was launched two weeks ago.
On Thursday morning, an IDF officer was killed and a soldier was lightly wounded in a clash with Hamas gunmen in the central Gaza Strip.
The fatality was identified as Maj. Roi Rosner, 27, from Holon.
The two, from the Haruv Battalion of the Kfir Brigade, were hit when a Hamas operative fired an anti-tank missile at them while they were conducting searches near the Kissufim crossing.
Rosner will be laid to rest at 8 p.m. in Holon's military cemetery.
Four of the soldiers were killed in two friendly fire incidents and another was killed by a mortar shell fired at an army base in southern Israel.
Meanwhile, the IDF confirmed hits on at least 10 Hamas gunmen in various clashes in the northern Strip.
In addition, Palestinians reported some two dozen IAF air strikes in Gaza. One terror operative was killed and 10 were wounded in Gaza City, while an air strike in northern Gaza killed three members of a rocket-launching cell, Palestinian medical officials said. The attack took place about 150 meters from a hospital and wounded 12 bystanders.
