Tuesday, 6 January 2009 An International Monetary Fund (IMF) team will begin talks with the Turkish economy officials over a new loan deal starting Thursday.
The IMF delegation, led by new Turkey desk chief Rachel van Elkan, will hold meetings with Turkish State Minister for economy Mehmet Simsek and other senior economy officials in Ankara. The IMF team is expected to head to Istanbul after talks with government officials and meet with businessmen and representatives of banking sector to discuss financing need of the real sector.
The IMF team will stay in Turkey until the end of January. Talks with the IMF is expected to resume in February.
The new loan deal between Turkey and the IMF is likely to be approved by the Fund in March. |
