Monday, 5 January 2009Jerusalem – Ma’an – A right wing Israeli political party applied to the central elections committee to prevent an Arab party from running in the coming elections.
Israeli rightist party “National Union” on Sunday applied for the Israeli central elections committee asking cancellation of the United Arab Movement for Renewal” and preventing its participation in the coming Knesset elections.
The application, submitted by the National Union Party, alleged that the Arab Movement for Renewal Party does not recognize Israel as a Jewish state and supports armed struggle in anti-Israel countries.
Commenting on the application, chair of the Arab Movement Dr Ahmad Tibi, said, “We are used to such applications by the Israeli right wing, which does not like the fact that the Arab population is represented by Arab members of Knesset.”
Tibi described the application as “Excessive extremism and antagonism against the Arab population and their leadership.” He said the Israeli right wing “dreams of a Knesset clear of any Arab representatives and an Israel cleared of its Arab population.”
He assured that the Arab Movement would push forward with its application, in hopes of continuing to support the Arabs in Israel with the struggle against occupation and for freedom.
“We are proud of our attitude and struggle against racial discrimination, dictatorship and apartheid,” said Tibi.
