Sunday, 28 December 2008The PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) which is on the terrorist organizations list of meny states, including United States, United Kingdom and Turkey, launched what can easily be called a smear campaign against the new Kurdish channel in Turkey. Murat Karayilan, one of the PKK leaders, referred to the TRT's Kurdish TV project as a "tightrope walker's game." In a message he sent to PKK sympathizers, Karayilan called for a boycott against the Kurdish TRT (TRT 6).
Karayilan said "such a television channel project and discussions on opening Kurdology departments at some universities actually have a weakly organized war plan underneath. These have a target of hurriedly making some broadcasts to win votes for the Justice and Development Party [AK Party] before the elections. Taking part in this project and supporting it is betraying the cause of Kurdish freedom”.
The PKK has its own channel Roj TV, based in Denmark. The Roj TV frequently makes interview with the PKK leaders and encourage violence in Turkey.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ihsan Bal told the JTW that the PKK is a typical terrorist organization and against any democratic step in Turkey: “The problems nourishes the PKK. The Kurdish TV is like an anti-dote against the PKK terrorism, that’s why they are fully against anything to improve Kurdish language by the State”.
