Gaza - Ma'an – Hamas welcomed Israel’s released of 227 Palestinian prisoners by Israel on Monday, also the majority of the detainees are affiliated to the party’s Palestinian rival, Fatah.
Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhoum said the movement congratulates the detainees on their return home.
“It is their right to live freely like anyone else,” said Barhoum in a statement.
He added that the release of prisoners is a “national obligation,” and that Israel’s decision to release a small number of prisoners was an effort to cover up for its “crimes” against Palestinians.
Barhoum added that Israel has a “revolving door policy” towards Palestinian prisoners, and is using the detainees as a tool to continue negotiations with the Fatah-dominated Palestinian Authority while marginalizing Hamas.
None of the people released on Monday were Hamas members. A minority were members of two left wing factions.
