The Nigerians, who have kidnapped a Bulgarian citizen, are holding him to ransom, Darik News reported Friday, citing statement of the temporary head of Bulgaria's mission in Abuja Petar Konstantinov.

"The victim is an engineer and works for a sub-contractor company in the West-African country," Konstantinov explained.

"We have talked to our fellow-citizen. He is in good health. However we are not in touch with the kidnappers yet," he added.

The official underlined the authorities are doing their best to resolve the problem as soon as possible.

Bulgaria's Embassy in Abuja has been signaled over the case by employees of the company the abducted man was serving for.

Reportedly, the crime was committed on Thursday.

The identity of the victim has not been revealed yet.
