Wednesday, 12 November 2008Macedonian, Turkish Foreign Ministers Antonio Milososki and Ali Babacan signed Tuesday in Ankara a strategy for boosting the bilateral relations, which also sets a solid base for adopting new action plans for cooperation in the spheres of security, defense, customs administration, economy, trade, education and culture.
In May 2008, Macedonia and the United States signed such strategy.
At a press conference, Milososki extend gratitude to Turkey on its support of Macedonia's accession to NATO, saying that Skopje was doing its best to become part of this family.
Turkey will keep supporting Macedonia's accession to the Euro-Atlantic institutions, as it is significant for the regional stability, Babacan said.
- I believe that after joining NATO, Macedonia will take its place among the prosperous countries, Babacan said.
Referring to the economic cooperation, Babacan pointed out the growing interest of Turkish businessmen to invest in Macedonia.
Signing of the additional Protocol to the bilateral Free Trade Agreement will contribute to further boosting of the trade exchange between the two countries, Babacan added.
NATO should not be a scene for individual confrontations, Babacan said, commenting the Greek denial of Macedonia's constitutional name and thus blocking the country's accession to NATO.
- I hope for this process (negotiations on name dispute settlement) to soon result in a solution, Babacan said.
This evening, Milososki is also scheduled to meet President Abdullah Gul. /lk/fd/18:36
