During the 4th International Cotton Fair held in Tashkent on October 15 and 16 Uzbekistan signed a contract concerning export of 950 000 tons of cotton fiber.
The 4th International Cotton Fair was organized by International Cotton Institute and Cotton Outlook Magazine. It attracted more than 350 companies from 35 countries including China, Russia, Turkey, Egypt, Poland, India, Latvia, Ghana, Azerbaijan, South Korea, Poland, and Bangladesh.

More than 80% of Russia's cotton import is from Uzbekistan. The participants of the Cotton Fair were able to learn about the qualitative characteristics of Uzbek cotton and the latest innovations in trade and logistics. The guests of the Cotton Fair also participated in the cotton trading session on Uzbek commodity exchange.
This two day fair resulted in signing of direct bilateral export contracts by most participants and Uzbekistan. They have agreed on export of cotton fiber of 2008-2009 years' harvest. These cotton contracts bring about 1 billion US dollars to Uzbekistan.

The first Cotton Fair was held in October 2005 resulting in contracts on exporting more than 1.1 million tons of cotton fiber.
In 2006 this number was 1.7 million tons and 600 000 tons in 2007.Uzbekistan produces about 3.5 million tons of raw cotton and 1 million tons of cotton fiber. Nearly 75% of manufactured cotton fiber is exported.
