At least 70 people died in a train crash in China and hundreds more are reported to have been injured after two passenger trains collided near Zibo in Shandong Province.

One train was en route from Beijing to the seaside resort of Quingdao while the second train was travelling between the cities of Yantai and Xuzhou, euronews informed.

A total of 400 people were taken to hospital as at least 70 are in a critical condition, authorities said.

Chinese media ruled out terrorism, saying preliminary investigations found human error was the reason for the crash but did not provide more details.
