Tuesday, 22 April 2008The Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Hassan Wirajuda will visit Uzbekistan in May 2008.
During the visit, Wirajuda will hold talks with the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov.
Indonesian FM will also give a speech at the Business Forum IndonesiaÔÇôUzbekistan as ways to promote relationship and to boost bilateral cooperation between two countries, particularly in economic, trade and investment sectors.
The conduction of the Business Forum is a part of the implementation of the message given in the recent Joint Commission Meeting in Indonesia 2008 last month to develop trade and investment activities between the two countries.
In 2007, trade between Indonesia and Uzbekistan reached US$28.2 million with Indonesian main export commodities to Uzbekistan comprising among others plastic product, machinery, food products and services.
Besides that, there are currently three Indonesian companies operating in Uzbekistan in the sector of hotel, telecommunication and restaurant and several Indonesian companies which have business activities in Uzbekistan through partnership and subcontracts.
Furthermore, there are Indonesian companies which are looking for the opportunity to make business in several sectors in Uzbekistan.
Besides having common interests in the economic relations, Indonesia and Uzbekistan have a similar position in wide range of regional and international issues including combating terrorism, people smuggling, drug trafficking, money laundering, eradicating of corruption and other types of crime.
Following the upcoming visit to Uzbekistan in May 2008, the Indonesian Foreign Minister will also make visits to other Central Asian countries.
