Iraqi Turkmen Launch Election Campaigns |
6 December 2004The political parties of Iraqi Turkmen officially launched their campaigns yesterday for the general elections on January 30th. Representatives of seven Turkmen parties who decided to run jointly in the elections held a press conference yesterday. The Turkmen parties will run their campaigns with the main platform of a "Democratic, parliamentary, peaceful, pluralist Iraq that is suitable in the new world system."
The parties said they are conducting various campaigns to raise awareness of the elections and to get people to the polls. Iraqi Turkmen Party President Cemal San said they will visit all of the Turkmen villages and residential areas during the campaign. San added that they will especially seek to educate Turkmen women on how to vote. San noted that they would take precautionary measures to protect the press arriving from Turkey and said they will set up an information bureau for the press. He also said they were prepared for possible terror attacks as they thought that the elections might be hard. San added, "We have taken all kinds of measures."
