Azerbaijan to Consider Raising Energy Prices

The Azerbaijani government is required to consider raising prices on energy resources once a year, head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission Vitali Kramarenko told a news conference on the results of his visit to Baku. He did not elaborate on the details of such an increase.

With regard to the lack of proper gas, electric power and water supplies in case the prices increase, he said that steps would be taken to solve the problem.

Kramarenko said that during the visit he discussed with Azeri officials the macro-economic situation in the country and execution of the budget in 2004 and 2005.
He said that the macro-economic situation in Azerbaijan was stable last year. This was not related to inflation, he added.
