Luxembourg: Negotiation Is On April 26 |
14 October 2004Membership talks will Turkey will probably begin in the first half of 2005, on 26 April 2005 when the Association Council will convene, in case the European Union Summit of December 17 produced a decision to begin talks with Turkey.
EU circles say that unless a very important development takes place, talks with Turkey would begin in the first half of the year. The sources said that no condition about Cyprus would be on the table while deciding to start talks with Turkey.
Being reminded of the statements of Greek Cypriot foreign minister Yorgo Yakovu, European sources said that they did not expect from the Greek Cypriot Administration to take an initiative of veto against Turkey.
A source said, "Efforts by a country to block a process of 24 countries, is politically unacceptable."
