Bush, Japanese Prime Minister to Hold Talks

U.S. President George Bush and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe are holding talks Friday at the U.S. presidential retreat outside Washington, Camp David, where North Korea's nuclear program is expected to be a main topic.

Mr. Abe arrived in the United States on Thursday, his first visit to the country since taking office last year. He had an informal dinner with Mr. Bush at the White House.

During Friday's meeting at Camp David, Mr. Abe also plans to raise the issue of Japanese citizens kidnapped by North Korean agents during the 1970s and 1980s. Japan refused to fund a six-party disarmament deal with North Korea because of the kidnapping dispute.

The Japanese leader has said he plans to use the trip to build mutual trust with the president.

Friday's lunch menu at Camp David includes cheeseburgers made with American beef. Japan's restrictions on U.S. beef imports have been a point of contention between the two countries.

Earlier this month, Japan suspended beef imports from a third U.S. meat-packing plant after it allegedly violated safety rules intended to prevent mad cow disease.
