The European Parliament (EP) general assembly has passed a regulation prepared by the European Union (EU) Commission to support Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) financially and to develop its economy.
The regulation was approved 618 votes to 39. The Commission is expected to confirm the draft approving 259 million euros in financial aid within three years in order to implement the plan.
The EU Commission had reported that the financial aid is mainly being provided for infrastructure, roads, water, energy and the environment. US State Department Spokesman Adam Ereli said yesterday that the US has no plans to start commercial flights to the TRNC.
