Wednesday, 21 June 2006Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi said here on Wednesday that Iran will not offer a nuclear counter-proposal to the European Union and will announce its final decision after concluding its examination of the offer. Asefi told reporters that the European Union has set no deadline for Iran to announce its decision since its officials are well aware of the mind-set of Iranian officials.
He went on to say that U.S. President George W. Bush's remarks, in which he said Iran has little time to respond to the proposal, are not acceptable and not in line with the Iran-EU talks.
Asefi underlined the fact that world public opinion should not be influenced by improper remarks, saying that if logic and wisdom prevail, Iran's nuclear standoff will definitely be resolved.
Various committees are studying the EU's nuclear proposal and satisfactory progress has been made, he added.
