Iraqi authorities say two bomb blasts in Baghdad killed at least six people and wounded more than 30 others wounded Tuesday, despite a massive security crackdown in the capital.

The separate attacks took place in a central Baghdad market and in the mainly Shi'ite Sadr City area.

To the south, in Basra, a suicide bomber blew himself up in a home for the elderly, killing at least one person and wounding three others.

Meanwhile, thousands of U.S. and Iraqi soldiers and police are continuing a search for two American soldiers, missing since late Friday, who may have been kidnapped during an ambush south of Baghdad.

Insurgents from the Mujahideen Shura Council linked to the terrorist group "al-Qaida in Iraq" claim to have captured the soldiers, but a message seen on the Internet Monday had no corroborating details. U.S. military officials have expressed skepticism about the claim.

Separately, the U.S. Army has charged three American soldiers with killing three unidentified detainees last month in Iraq's restive Salahuddin province.

The victims have been described only as men of Middle Eastern origin.

A news report published in Italy - by the ANSA news agency - says prosecutors are seeking the indictment of a U.S. soldier for fatally shooting an Italian intelligence agent last year in Baghdad. The United States and Italy disagree over the circumstances of the agent's death. Rome blames the shooting on stress and inexperience of U.S. troops.
